The Flores Jungle trekking, our longest and wildest trip in Flores, takes you through the biggest nature park in East Nusa Tenggara of 32. 245 hectare in the heart of Mount Mandosawu which spans within two regencies, Manggarai Regency to East Manggarai Regency. This jungle trekking takes place in Ruteng, a very mountainous city in Flores which is surrounded by Mandosawu mountain ranges on the south part and sea of rice terrace on the north part.
This jungle trek is 14 km in distance starting from Golo Lusang, Ruteng with an elevation of 1.690 mbl and going through Poco Murung as the highest elevation of 1.825 mbl. The trail from here is relatively downhill to the village Colol, East Manggarai Regency and Cunca Rede waterfall 835 mbl.
The main attraction you will experience during this approx. 6-hour trek is this jungle trek takes you to a deep primary rainforest home of variety of trees and if you are lucky you can also spot orchids and mushrooms.
The main agenda of this full day trip is walking in the deep rainforest. Somehow, during this trekking, you will be awarded with a cultural attraction from the village who live on the foot of the mountain whose life relying on agriculture and palm sap tapper. Therefore, during this trip you will be taken to this indigenous experience combined with stunning waterfall Cunca Rede at the end of the trekking.

Itinerary
We have carefully planned out a full day trip option to give you the best possible experience. This jungle trek starts and ends in Ruteng. We recommend you to book this tour much in advance in order to set accordingly. April to October is ideally the best time to experience this tour.
You will leave your hotel at 06.30 to begin your trip to Golo Lusang (1.690 mbl) where you will start the trekking. The car will drop you off here and then you will start trekking through the trail that has been passed by walkers in the past to connect the city of Ruteng in Manggarai Regency and Colol or Nta’ur in East Manggarai. The approximate time of trekking is 6 hours. The first 3-4 hours is completely passing through the jungle and then for the last 2 hours, you will enter into a village Colol and Ntau’r where you can see locals who are far from the city whose lives rely much on agriculture such as; rice field, coffee plantations, cloves, and other popular commodities. You can also see a unique tradition of the local people who sapping palm liquids to make arak for their extra income. After passing the village, you will reach Cunca Rede waterfall, one of the great waterfalls found in Flores Island. Your jungle trekking ends here and then the driver will pick us up and take back to Ruteng where you will eat dinner and stay overnight.
