“We have three days left in our tour after exploring Komodo National Park and we wanted to see more of Labuan Bajo before flying back home. We like jungle trekking and after searching on google, we only found yours that offer a Flores Jungle Trekking”.
“After the tour is over, it became the highlight of our tour in Indonesia”, said Tess, one of our clients who did a three day Labuan Bajo Countryside Tour in the beginning of October 2025
Last weekend, two clients from The Netherland joined the Flores Jungle Trekking Tour organized by our company.
The adventure started early in the morning from Ruteng, a small town in the highlands of Flores. Everyone was excited to explore the beauty of Flores’ natural jungle in the conservation area of Ruteng Nature Park (32.245 hectare).
The trip began with a drive to Golo Lusang (1.690 mbl), a foot of the mountain surrounded by green hills and forest. From there, the group started their trekking through the thick jungle.
The first trail was challenging as it is steep and narrow path passing through some trees dominated by balakacida and many species of ferns including tree ferns under many big trees like fig (ficus carica) and banyan (ficus benjamina). They had to reach the peak of the trail at Poco Gurung (1.825 mbl) or trekking for 135 meters.
By the time they started the trekking, they immediately were introduced to the rain forest with a total peaceful and fresh, thousands of tall trees, colorful flowers, and the sounds of birds and insects all around. Some parts of the trek were challenging, but the views and the fresh jungle air made it all worth it.
As they climbed higher, they reached Poco Murung, the highest point of the trek and a border between two administrative regencies, Manggarai and East Manggarai.
Later, the trail was completely downhill to 1.300 mbl into small villages of Colol, Rondo Woing Subdistrict, Rana Mese District, East Manggarai Regency with a four hour trekking in the jungle.
In Colol, they met local people and learned about their daily life and tasted their local cuisine of steaming cassava and taro, vegetable mixed with candlenuts and steaming rice. They even tried juice from arak palm tree, one of the popular productions in the area.
The group saw rice fields, coffee plants, and palm trees. Some locals were tapping the palm trees to collect liquid for making traditional drinks. Tess had the opportunity to buy one bottle of distilled arak. They were happy to see how the people live closely with nature.

The last two hours of the trek was walking off the village Colol to reach the Cunca Rede waterfall. They saw farmers going to farm and then a beautiful panorama of the rice field near famous river Wae Musur. Farmers also took some pictures with our clients as they barely find tourists in the village.
After a long walk, the cool water and the sound of the waterfall were already there waiting. Cunca Rede Waterfall was a great addition to their jungle trek.
By the end of the day, everyone was tired but full of joy. They returned to Ruteng with smiles on their faces and many beautiful memories in their hearts. For them, it was their first time in the Flores jungle, and they said it was a day they will never forget.
Now you are able to see some of the pictures taken by our clients Lian and Tess who were very excited about the experience and willing to share it also to their families and friends when they are back to homeland.
